reDesigning Democracy

What are the design principles for civic contexts?

Despite the proliferation and seeming ubiquity of digital (visual) communication, important decisions are still made using acoustic communication: speaking and listening. And this communication is performed in civic contexts, defined by people, mobility, culture and hard infrastructure (built environment).

Informed by a series of field work exercises, workshops and guest lectures, the students worked in small groups to investigate methods for collective decision making. The method could incorporate technology, performance and design, to support acoustic communication in some way; the exchange of ideas using spoken language.
