Soundcraft

Vessels for the future of listening

The word craft means both vessel or means of transportation and to make.

The Soundcraft studio investigated the design, operation and experience of non-traditional spatial listening environments. High-end listening environments traditionally include cinemas, concert halls, recording control rooms and places of assembly. However due to the proliferation of digital technologies and advances in loudspeaker technologies, sophisticated spatial sound environments can now be deployed in cultural and educational spaces, museums and arts centres, and even outdoor urban sites.

During this studio, participants visited traditional and non-traditional sound environments in Melbourne. From these investigations, research and design development they explored ways to create the conditions for future-focussed spatial sound experiences.
